10 of clubs

10 of clubs, originally uploaded by iamaprice(Amanda).

My boy was born with bilateral clubfeet. Poor little guy had blisters on his ankle bones from rubbing up against my ribs. :(
We'll be taking him to a doctor in Syracuse on Monday for his first set of casts using the Ponseti method. If you know anybody with a child afflicted with clubfeet, tell them about Dr. Ponseti's work. It could make all the difference.

  1. Aw, poor little thing. :( He's a beautiful baby, though. :) Congratulations!! He definitely takes after your side of the family. I can see you and your sisters in him. :) We're praying that all goes well with this doctor! Take care and get your rest. :)

  2. He is beautiful. This picture really takes me back to when Brooke was born. Her feet looked very much like Walt's little feet. It reminds me of the passage in the Bible where there is a man described as "lame from birth" and although they don't say it I think he had clubfeet. Check it out...Acts 14:8 It says...a man crippled in his feet, lame from birth, never walked. Can you imagine...if they were born in another place or time, our babies would have been like that man...different, possible outcasts. Even today in China, babies born with clubfeet are useless. Your baby will be wonderful. Dr. Cady will do an amazing job with his feet and no one will ever even know he was born with clubfeet unless you choose to tell them. Brooke is 3 1/2 now and people we didn't know when she was a baby have no idea that she ever had anything wrong with her.

Enjoy these next couple of weeks as you get to know your little baby and enjoy watching his feet transform right before your eyes. Looks like I don't have to tell you to get lots of pictures. All too soon you will forget what his feet looked like. Although you might not believe it now, in a strange way you might end up missing those crooked little feet, so precious and cute.
