Excuse me...
for being redundant. I'm sure you're all sick of seeing babies in baskets. I just can't help myself. Mr. Man is 5 weeks old today.
I am slain...
...by the lip. Be still my heart.
I wish I'd repositioned his left arm, but I wasn't about to scrap this one.
I want you to meet somebody

My kids amuse me
Joshy: "Mom! May I please have some cheese?"
Me: "Son, you just ate dinner."
Joshy: "No, no. It's not for me, I need it for my trap."
Me: "Oh ya? What are you trapping, mice?"
Joshy: "No. Ok. Let me tell you what I made. I took some string and tied it with a loop at the end because I'm going to catch a deer. All I need is just a small piece of cheese now, for bait."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Emmy: "Hey! That WHYMES!"
Me: "What rhymes?"
Emmy: "Beaw and bwackbewwies!"
And speaking of rhymes...
Emmy: "Momma! Wookit! My pink dwess an' my pink shoes WHYME because they'ow boaf PINK!"
Secret Smile
I took a few snaps of the kids as they were laying down for their naps today. After I kissed them, told them to go to sleep, and left the premises, I overheard the following conversation:
Joshy: "hehehe, I love it when Mom takes my picture at rest time, you know why?"
Emmy: "No."
Joshy: "Becaaaaaause she doesn't know that it makes us get to stay up longer! heheheheee!"
No wonder he was so co-operative.
Prison Rations
My son spends a copious amount of time hunting for frogs. He puts his captives in a large flower pot so he can "take care" of them for the remainder of the day (he has to let them go at bedtime).
I saw Addie, Emmy, and Joshy all leaning over the prison with much interest, so I snuck up behind them to see what the fuss was about.
Joshy: "C'mon now, fella, eat up your dinner. I found you this delicious worm for you to snack on. You don't want it? You don't care for worms? Well they're good for you! Just take THREE bites."
Psalm 141:3
Jamie Soles has this little verse arranged to music on one of his children's CD's. It's one of my kids' favorites and a good verse to hide away in their hearts. We can do so much damage with the words we say.
"Don't pwess diss button?"
Another wet mess narrowly averted. My apologies to the next person to drink from this fountain.
I detest water fountains, particularily the ones with slow water pressure. They've got to be *loaded* with germs. This was Emmy's first time seeing one up close (she was too short to notice them before). She's one of those children who cannot ask a question about a particular thing without touching it. My mantra: "If it doesn't belong to you, don't touch it unless you have permission" is apparently falling on deaf ears.
Glee
My Addie girl had so much fun playing bubbles with her Aunt at the lake yesterday. Children continually amaze me. They find so much joy in simple things.
Happy Napper
My little window full of promise.
He fits into Joshy's old buckaroo overalls from Mark and Laura Grafton. :)
This sorta took on a life of it's own in ps.
1 month
He was a month old yesterday. We loaded up all of the kids (they behaved themselves, thankfully) and went to Syracuse to have his casts changed. Dr. Cady decided to give him a few days before re-casting this time because his little legs were getting sore in places. He's so happy to have his mobility back. He's hardly fussed at all since we got home. It makes me dread having to put them back on, poor little lamb. :(
Gentle hands
His MomMom's.
She doesn't like the wrinkles nor the age spots, but these are not ugly things. Every line is an evidence of a good day's work, food prepared, dishes washed, a thoughtful and unselfish act performed, an affectionate stroke, a soothing touch to mend a hurt. I'm thankful for these hands that have helped me so much, these hands which have held each of my little ones so tenderly and I'm thankful to the Lord for the woman to whom they belong, my precious mother-in-law.
Matthew 25:40 "And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
And the Father of the Year Award Goes To...
I wish I had time to dig out photos that none of you have seen before, but I don't and I didn't want Father's Day to go by without a post because of it. As you can see, I usually have to sneak up on him because he hates having his picture taken. I used to be respectful of this hatred, but no more. I'm resolved to taking more snaps of him interacting with our kids. He is SUCH a great dad. After the Lord, our family comes first, not movies, not sports, not his guy buddies, nothing. I want our kids to have a record of all of the wonderful, creative, fun, and interesting things he does with them everyday.
Honey, if you're reading this, Happy Father's Day! You're the best!
"Bye!"
Addie waving to Daddy. "Bye" is her new favourite word. She says it often and with much cuteness.
Just a little slice of life around here. Click on the photo if you want to read the notes.
Papa's Hands
My father-in-law and son. He's such a good Papa, my kids adore him. Addie has taken to calling for him when she first wakes up in the morning.
"Bop-pah! Bop-paaaaah!"
Those Irresistible Toes
Happy Father's Day, Greg!
*hint for family members* Don't offer to hold the baby if you don't want to be shot, captured, and drug into photoshop. ;) :D
I'm horrible. I know.
Precious Sleep
We could all use some. I'm completely frazzled. Little man hasn't had a good nap since this morning.
Chillin' like a...
...thing that chills. (Don't ask me to come up with titles at this time of night)
He likes to lounge in my beanbag. It's probably more comfy for him to have his casts propped up a bit. Btw, he got his second set of casts last Monday. His feet are making terrific progress already! Dr. Cady says his left foot is a bit more stiff than his right one, but they were both noticably straighter. Josh took some photos while we were there, I just haven't gotten them uploaded onto the computer yet.
Couch Potato
1. Thanks so much for the early birthday present, Shawn and Tam! I'll put it to good use. :D
2. Boogers and drama abound here. The girls were the first to come down with it and now, after getting precious little sleep last night due to the aforementioned drama, Josh, Joshy, and I are coming down with it as well, as if I weren't enough of a waste of skin already. Thankfully, little Walt seems to have been preserved thus far. We're praying that he'll continue to be since it's quite difficult for babies to nurse when their noses are stuffy.
3. Looks like we're going to miss out on a visit with Ben and Kathryn. *sob*
4. The baby is entering the glorious pimple breakout phase, poor guy. They have to be itchy and sore. Hopefully he won't get it as bad as Addie did. Hers were horrendous.
5. I always draw a blank when I get to five.
"Wanna betend I'm your horse, Emmy?"
Yes, the rocking chair is the wagon and yes, Emmy is in fact TIED to it, waist and hands, with wide ribbons. Emmy was following gamely behind her charging steed on her tippy-toes, chair in tow perched precariously atop her hiney.
This is exactly the purpose for which Josh taught him to tie knots. We're so proud.
For every problem...
...there is a solution. He needed something to keep the water out of his eyes and nose while in the pool.
*Old safety glasses - CHECK
*Masking tape for nasal protection - CHECK
This boy's got a bit of his Dad in him. :)
I want to post more snaps than I have space for at flickr, so I'm giving Picasa another try. That means that if you click on them, you can see them in big, scary detail.
Grateful
This was taken last Saturday. It was her first time in the pool and she was clearly delighted by the whole experience.
Yesterday...
It was 94 degrees. The humidty was stifling. Josh and I had an appointment for little Walt in Syracuse so Emmy and Addie were going to go grocery shopping with Lonna, Jen, and Ann (my m-i-l and sisters-i-l) and Joshy was going to ride along with us. I was up in my room nursing the baby and getting things ready to go when Emmy came to kiss me goodbye. She was wearing the pink dress Auntie Kristie sent down. Her hair in pigtail knots all curly from the humidity. She looked so beautiful. After giving her a kiss, she went downstairs and I heard Addie saying "BYE! BYE!" so I thought they had left.
Emmy, wanting to prove how big she is, had gone out to the van herself and strapped herself into her carseat. The van was parked in full sun and none of us knew she was in there. The Lord had Ann go out to start the van and get the A/C going and she found Emmy, red as a beet and exhausted from crying. A few more minutes could have been her death in that hot vehicle.
Her temperature had gone down to 95 degrees due to shock. My husband, who I will never tease again about reading survival books, acted quickly to get her temperature stablized. He said he's never been more afraid in his life than he was when he saw her.
I don't know how much time God will allow me to be mother to these four kids, but I know how blessed, how utterly blessed, I am to hold them all today.
First home
It's my in-law's house, but his first home. We'll be moving west before he can remember it so I had to get this for him.
Big Sissy
I was trying to get a shot of little Walter out in front of his first home. Addie was off to the side packing big, dirty rocks around so she was quite filthy when she toddled over to give him a cuddle. She's totally in love with him and quite possesive. If Joshy and Emmy are close to him, she does her best to push them away.
We got outside today.
It was one humid day. Little man didn't want to sleep for the longest time, but he eventually drifted off for a couple of minutes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They had a clearance sale on girl's undies yesterday so Josh picked up several packages. Naturally, Emmy wanted to try them all on the moment she got home from town, so we explained to her that we'll have to store them away until she gets bigger and can fit into them.
This morning at around 6:00, I was awoken by her voice whispering loudly in my ear:
"Et-scuse me, Mom. Pwease may I tew you sumpeen?"
"*grrrroan* What is it, love?"
"Well I juss haff to tew you that my bum grew SO MUCH in the night!"
