If you've got an opinion, I'd love to hear it

Ok, so I'm finally getting product samples together and I want to order some mongo canvases to show my clients. Since it's really hard for me to seperate myself from the technical aspects, I wonder if I could get your thoughts as to which ones would make you go "ooo", if any. Hopefully, these will behave themselves and load properly, but if one or two look like they're oriented the wrong way, cock your head to the side and have a good look-see from that angle. As you can see, they're all of Adeline and that's because I'll be specializing in newborns. She's the only baby I've taken pictures of with my new camera so, besides the fact that I think she's perfectly adorable, these are also the only files big enough to make the sizes I want. Now, if you can spare a minute to pick two, can you also tell me why you prefer them? Thanks!

I need one vertical and one horizontal. Here are your options for horizontal:

And vertical:

  1. Thanks, Amanda, for the invitation to join your blog. I appreciate that.

I am no expert at photography, and I think all your pics are fabulous so it is hard to select only two. But if it has to be narrowed down, my personal favorite of the horizontals is the one with Adeline beside your Dad's violin. The coloring is great, and it is an all rounded well displayed picture - showing off her size in comparison to the violin, and reminding me a little of the Jenny Geddes baby shots. Of the verticals, I love the ones of you or Josh holding her. I don't know which of them stands out the most - maybe the black and white of you and Adeline would be a slight preference. Hope that helps...Ginny

  2. Well they're all charming but here goes. I'm gonna have to go with the swaddled black and white for the horizontal. The textures are so rich and nicely captured and she looks so snuggly. Jord votes for the violin one. For the vertical, I'm gonna go with the Josh one. Initially I liked the beanie one (which is Jord's vote) but I think the Josh one would have more mass appeal. I dunno if you want to do all black and white or all colour, or a mix. Anyhoo there you have it. Feel free to disregard this and pick whatever you please. ;)

  3. Oooo -- I'm torn! I think that for the horizontals I can't decide between the swaddled black and white (I agree with Dor -- the textures are awesome!) or the black and white of her on the blanket. Her facial expression is so sweet -- just precious! Then, for the vertical I'd have to say the one with Josh ... I love the little flower behind her ear and how she's smiling. And women love to see pictures of the daddy's with their babies. :) That's my very uneducated opinion, for what it's worth.

  5. Hey Manda, agreeing with everyone else that they're all gorgeous. :D

For horizontal I have to go with the one of her on the bed with her eyes open, it doesn't have as much texture, but her expression it great, so happy, contented, and she's got the cutest Monalisa smile going on there..self satisfaction perhaps? So there's that aspect, and the fact that her eyes are open, shinning, beautfil, and it's more rare to capture good pictures of babies awake.

Vertical I would have to go with the Josh one for sentimental "ooo awwing" as she's just such a sweet hawaiian doll in it. :D It has the more "part of a family" deal, not to mention her charming smile. But that being said the bean baby rocks for color, texture, and creativity, and I would say is more on the art side of babyness, which might balance out well the awake black and white hozizontal, if you chose to go with that.

As for going side by side, I think the bw's go together best, but I'm pretty torn between the two (the bean, or flower) as they both have so much to offer.

Sorry, I'm nearly as bad as deciding as you, nothing like asking the opinion of an uneducated, over opinionated, yet indecisive person. :D

You get a lot of opion, but nothing is clearer for it, eh heh.

Thanks for resharing those pics, just lovely. Have fun deciding!

  6. For the horizontal, I actually like the first one best because it's so colourful and shows that you're thinking outside of the box (not just closeups, but creative settings too). And for the vertical, I'm torn between the one of her and Josh with that cute little flower, and the one with the beanie. I think I lean more towards the latter because it's clearer and the lighting makes it stand out. :) But I do love that flower and the smile - doesn't get much cuter. :D

Let us know what you end up choosing!

  8. Oh, wow, they are all awesome pics. I think, like some others, I like the horizontal one of Adeline outside by the stream of water. That's just different and a neat view on taking pictures of babies. I like the vertical one of her and Josh. I love pics of babies with their daddy, and that's such a cute one. So, that's my two cents! :)

  9. Okay, so I did finally making a decision after loooooong debate. Man you really made me think....my brain is tired.:P:P:P

Okay, so I like out of the horizontal ones Addie with the violin b/c you're not just takin a pic of a sleeping baby but of the baby with a special pose.......and I like this one better than the first, b/c it's more of a close-up, you can really see her face. I think those two aspects are really important.

Then for the vertical pics I like the one of Addie and Josh b/c it shows the wonderful contrast of a strong male and a young feminine baby. I LOVE the one of you and Addie of course b/c it displays the mother's love, but the one of Josh and Addie as well displays the forgotten role of many a'father these days in protecting his sweet maidens.
    So for what it's worth;)
    LOVE YA TONSIES!!!!!!:X:X:X:X:X

  10. You guys are the best! Thanks so much for the detailed input!! Just goes to show that everyone has their own taste. :P I wanted to order tonight, but I keep nodding off so I'll have to do it tomorrow. I've almost made up my mind. Maybe. haha Looking at it different ways causes me to go back and forth.

Please keep Josh in prayer. He pretty sick with either food poisoning or stomach flu.

    Night all!

P.S. Ginny, your comment about Jenny Geddes totally cracked me up! I know you were thinking of Anne Geddes and I surely will take that as a compliment.

  11. HaHa. Yes, I was thinking of Anne Geddes. I guess you can tell I read more Covenanter stuff than art stuff for that to be the first name that popped into my mind. Totally missed my mistake till you pointed it out. I guess there was no flying stool in that picture, was there, though that might make a good shot sometime in the future. Thanks for pointing out my goof. :-)
